VOICE OF PROPHECY
REUNION CONCERT 1998 |
| A significant event for the Kings Heralds occurred on August 15, 1998. A
reunion concert of past and present Voice of Prophecy musicians took place in Loma Linda,
California, with the event being filmed live, and beamed to the world by seven
satellites. Past members of the quartet joined with the current members for Just
a Little Talk With Jesus. All the living members who had ever sung
bass for the group were present and sang this song, including the original bass, Ray
Turner, who was interviewed, and told a little about how the quartet originally joined the
VOP. Former first tenors for the group, Bob Edwards, and John Ramsey, both were
featured as soloists in other songs. Baritone Jack Veazey, who retired from the
quartet in 1997, also soloed. Jim McClintock, former bass for the quartet, pleased
the audience with his low notes as he soloed as well. A quartet (J. Ramsey, J. Patton, J. Veazey, J. McClintock)
typical of the former VOP radio broadcasts in the past, gathered around a studio mic, and
sang a familiar song, with H.M.S. Richards, Jr. announcing the show, as it once was
done. The current quartet sang their Saved by the Blood - Medley, having
former full-time Kings Heralds arranger and pianist Jim Teel at the piano(and with a solo), and
with other instrumentalists joining in the fun. |

UNITED
STATES MINISTRY
The Kings Heralds maintain an extensive
touring schedule of the U.S. Churches on both coasts, and a whole lot in
between are blessed periodically with music, humor, and a strong Gospel message.
And, of course, often featured, is the quartet's most requested song, Only a
Boy Named David. Kids of all ages get a kick out of watching as bass Jim
Ayars falls neatly to the floor, as he has been doing for many years now. A typical
concert has ten or so songs, with the expected introductions of the members, time for
the kids, and a gospel sermonette.
Not only do the Kings Heralds give concerts for church congregations, they also minister to much
smaller groups as part of a hospital ministry. The patients are encouraged and uplifted by the music, but many
family members who are also present also gain a blessing. Sometimes the songs
embrace a family at the very moment that a loved one is slipping away. Unforgettable
is the story of the parents of a baby girl, who was dying, even as the quartet stood by
her bedside. "Please," said the parents, "sing Only a Boy Named
David. We want it to be the last sound our baby hears in this world."
The Kings Heralds also have a prison
ministry, and have been in every major correctional institution in the state of
California. Hardened inmates are often greatly moved, and give their lives to
Jesus Christ, many for the first time. Much requested by the inmates is the song, One
Day at a Time.
The Heralds recently appeared on a continuing
series of The Carter Report.
Night after night the quartet provided music for this special evangelsitic series.
